Week of January 25th, 2015

It was a family affair when the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra opened its 2014-2015 season. Soprano Julia Sitkovetsky joins her father Dmitri to mark his 60th birthday as he leads the orchestra in an overture by Rossini, plus famous opera arias by Verdi, Donizetti and Puccini. The second part of the concert program consists of one of Mahler’s mightiest symphonies, with Ms. Sitkovetsky back to add her soprano to the mix.

Week of January 18, 2015

Conductor Donald Portnoy and the USC Symphony Orchestra began the 2014-2015 concert season by welcoming star cellist Zuill Bailey. Then it’s off to Western North Carolina for another 2014 season-opener, where a world premiere began the program, which also included a performance of the first symphony by the 20th-century American Neo-Romantic Samuel Barber.

Week of December 7th, 2014

Finalists in the first ever Young Chamber Musicians Classical Competition from WDAV Classical Public Radio gave a concert on the campus of Davidson college in September of 2014. The program begins with three of the competition judges performing selections by Vivaldi and Rodrigo to warm up the crowd in Tyler-Tallman Hall.
