This week WDAV makes stops at two of the Virginia Arts Festival’s chamber music venues, beginning with Great Bridge Presbyterian Church in Chesapeake, Virginia for a concert by the American String Quartet. They’ll play one of Beethoven’s earlier string quartets, known as “Compliments,” and then they’re joined by pianist Andre-Michel Schub for the lush Quintet by Cesar Franck. Following that it’s on to the Miller Studio Theater of the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach for the quartet’s performance of one of the undisputed masterwork’s of the repertory, Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden.” The program is hosted by Mike McKay and Joe Brant.BEETHOVEN: String Quartet in G major, Op. 18 no. 2
